Design Process

Author Amanda Foody's website is redesigned to effortlessly display her literary works. The clean website design interface ensures a highly navigable and enjoyable user experience.
01. Usability Heuristics
Here are a few user interface design flaws I determined by analyzing the website:

• Having no homepage button at the top of each webpage complicates a users ability to exit interactions
• Navigating the Books webpage is difficult due to a broken section link and combining the different sections (Middle Grade, Young Adult, Adult) into one page
• Poor readability across the webpages because of a low color contrast between the text and background
• The disorganized layout of elements on the webpages makes it hard for users to scan essential information
02. Key Insights
Here are some key insights I discovered based on three semi-structured interviews:

• There needs to be a homepage button added to the top of the screen, either a text or an icon
• Overall, it was easy to scroll to the top of the various webpages
• Having working links to the book sections would be helpful to navigate the book sections
• The webpages are difficult to read and would change the text colors to improve readability
03. Low Fidelity Wireframe

Based on the usability heuristics and key insights I created a low fidelity wireframe of the webpages to preliminarily assess design and functionality for an improved user experience.
04. Comparison Style Guide
I utilized a style guide to compare three distinct styles to determine the one that fit best for the website design. I selected the clean, natural, and engaging style to accentuate the imaginativeness of Amanda Foody's work.
05. Final Style Guide

To create the final website design, I utilized a style guide to maintain a consistent design system.
06. Final Website Design
The final clean and engaging design provides users a way to easily navigate Amanda Foody's website (desktop and mobile). I improved the website functionality and readability by correcting broken links and including additional buttons (such as the scroll-to-top button), adding a dropdown menu (Book sections), utilizing whitespace to organize elements, fixing spelling errors, and using a higher contrasting text and background colors.
